The Anti-Fascist Club is a home for those who care about the Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law, and who want to join forces to defeat the fascist threat to American democracy that exists today.
Out initial focus is on the fascist threat to American democracy in 2021, though we are open to contributions and comments regarding fascist threats to democracies in other countries.
Our goal is not to simply debate whether the current threat to American democracy represented by the Republican Party is fascist or not. We believe that “if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it is probably a duck.”
Yet in the United States in May, 2021, we can be more definite than that.
Considering the actions of Republican President Donald Trump and his Republican supporters over the last five years, and the current statements and policies being advanced by its current leaders, there can be no doubt that the Republican Party has become a fascist party, the fascist party of Donald Trump.
Republican Senators and House members voted to not recognize the certified electoral college vote confirming that Joe Biden had been elected President of the United States. They had no legal justification for such action. Indeed, it appears that they were co-conspirators in Donald Trump’s vast conspiracy to overthrow the November presidential election and with it the Constitution of the United States.
The issue facing us all is how we can best act to defeat the fascist challenge represented by the Republican Party. The Republicans in Congress, and elsewhere, have bought into “The Big Lie” that Trump won the election and that Joe Biden became president only as the result of massive electoral fraud.
Trump repeats The Big Lie endlessly. It has become a litmus test for good standing in the Republican Party. Liz Cheney (R-WY) was recently removed from the House Republican Leadership because she refused to buy into The Big Lie and other Trump lies. She was replaced by Elise Stephanik (R-NY), who was endorsed by Trump and who enthusiastically bought into the lies.
The Anti-Fascist Club is a site where anti-fascists can come together, share information, and consider the best ways to fight the Republican fascist threat that exists in America today.
